Akaneya

A sensory journey into the heart of Japan
Akaneya restaurants—based in Barcelona, Madrid and Paris—were born to recreate the authentic Japanese sumibiyaki experience, inspired by the izakaya taverns of Kyoto. Their attention to detail, unwavering respect for tradition, and use of the finest ingredients have earned them a place among the most highly regarded Japanese restaurants in Europe. With the vision to expand into the world’s leading capitals, Akaneya wanted to reposition its brand to increase visibility and establish itself as an international benchmark in traditional Japanese haute cuisine.
In Europe, diners rarely associate Japanese restaurants with sumibiyaki. This was both an opportunity to stand out and a challenge: to convey to the world what Akaneya is and what it represents. Our approach was not to present it as a Japanese restaurant but as a restaurant from Japan—a place where Japanese culture is experienced through all the senses.

Our approach was not to present it as a Japanese restaurant but as a restaurant from Japan—a place where Japanese culture is experienced through all the senses.

We elevated Akaneya’s art direction to align its image with a more traditional and refined Japan, far from the urban and overstimulated aesthetic. We conducted a shooting that captured the restaurant’s authenticity through close-up shots of objects and textures, warm tones, and a harmonious visual composition.

To create a digital experience that reflected the brand’s essence, we designed a clean, minimalist, and deeply evocative website. The images and the copy do more than inform —they immerse the user in the warmth and intimacy of the sumibiyaki ritual.
